We were in need to feel some real winter. You know, the kind with snow and crisp blustery air. On top of that, a sauna! And a woodburner with an ample supply of firewood. The setting was perfect. Deep woods, snow. But add to that a sauna, a river running fast enough to stay open in the cold and glittering in the sunshine. Can't beat it. But we also looked around and realized we will want to come back to hang out on that porch with the excellent view and lay in the hammock.

We enjoyed our couple night stay at Mike’s retreat in the wilderness. We stayed cozy between the wood burning fire place and the hot sauna. Everything was labeled with instructions that were very helpful. We would definitely stay again in the summer to enjoy the peace and quiet listening to the creek below!

Wood River Retreat is such a special place. The warm, authentic space invites you to relax, slow down, and savor your time. I enjoyed a beautiful winter weekend with my son and dog. We walked along the thoughtfully placed hand-rope to sit by the river, and had a traditional nordic sauna, alternating heat with playing in the snow. In the cabin, each object is carefully chosen to blend modern comfort and quiet charm. Sit by the woodstove with a cup of tea and enjoy the delightful collection of books for all ages. Or stream a movie while cooking a meal in the well appointed kitchen. Mike is an exceptional host and has anticipated every need, however you like to enjoy your cabin time.

Oh my, what a delightful stay! Driving from the Twin Cities is fast and efficient. Neatly plowed driveway through the forest to cabin sitting on a bluff overlooking the Wood river. Instant calm. Cabin was clean and aesthetically, pleasing with a blend of coziness and a sense of peaceful simplicity. Felt right at home. Kitchen is stocked like no other Airbnb I’ve been in. One could do everything from bake cookies to hosting a holiday dinner. The cookware, utensils, knives, dishes are of the highest. If one loves coffee as I do, there are two options, an espresso maker, and grind coffee pot. So many thoughtful touches and a multitude of spices and staples available. The beds were exceedingly comfortable. I slept like a log. The bedding was soft and immaculate. Excellent internet service and TVs in each room. Pristine books and games line the shelves as well as DVDs. I can picture a family movie night with popcorn! The sauna is a darling little building! The best Airbnb I have ever! TY🧡
